More information, more rights campaign

According to a survey conducted by FLIP (Press Freedom Foundation), there are difficulties to obtain public documents and information, because of a lack of knowledge of the legal grounds. There is not a clear concept on confidential information as legislation is confusing; citizens and authorities are not aware of their legal obligations, limits and prerogatives.

To tackle this problem, the British Embassy, in association with the British Council, the Antonio Nariño Project, the Press Freedom Foundation, Transparency for Colombia and Los Andes University launched the Campaign “More Information, More Rights” on 29 April at Los Andes University.

One of the main purposes of the Campaign is to offer better concept tools to access information to the Colombian State and the civil society, within the frame of other rights.

For the Campaign, it is important to highlight that access to public information is basic to strengthen governability, human rights and democracy in Colombia, and to promote people’s trust in the institutions.
