General framework of the British co-operation

General Framework of the British Cooperation

The British Government is committed to supporting the Colombian people in its efforts to confront the problems of illicit drugs, internal conflict, human rights abuses, and climate change.

British government funds are directed to initiatives that aim at producing strategic change. The primary responsibility for promoting actions in the above lies with governments themselves.  Without their commitment, the international community can try to influence the process, but will never effect lasting change. Through political and technical support, the UK seeks to work in partnership with those governments that want to comply with their international obligations and with civil society organisations that want contribute to make this happen.

Projects selected to support our work, are therefore those with high sustainability in results, adequate exit strategies, and a high potential to incentive structural change in policies, the application of norms, or the development of jurisprudence. These are usually implemented by third parties and could be local public entities, international agencies, and national or international civil society organisations.
